I am a visual artist based in Bristol. I like to explore different mediums including painting with wax and combining embroidery with wirework.
I specialise in oil pastel pieces on wood. I produce portraits by commission – realism pieces from photographs – and I also create original compositions. I am interested in semiotics and particularly the intersection of symbolism and pictorial representation. In my work I tend to emphasise stillness – to set off the drama of the natural world, and to elicit a sense of meaning within an unusual and dramatic arrangement of elements.
I have spent a lot of time abroad in the Balkans and particularly Albania, and my art blog includes many posts about my experiences there and the sources of inspiration I’ve encountered.
